Another Reason I Love My Job!

Yep, I travel a lot. Sometimes I fly, sometimes I drive. I used to put 60,000 miles a year on my car. Not so much anymore. But passing sights like this make it all worth it. Near Ouray, Colorado on my way home from Grand Junction. image

Laugh! And Support The U.S. Economy At The Same Time

Last night I did a show at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, NM, a beautiful casino/hotel resort.

This morning I read a story about a denim mill (the last one) that still makes quality denim right here in the United States of America. That started me thinking about my own show and its “country of origin.”

First and foremost, my show was at a Native American casino, can’t get much more American than that. Since the p.a. system isn’t mine, I can’t vouch that it is U.S. made. However, my music is controlled by a Virtual Soundman (made in the U.S.A.) remote cueing system. Sadly, VS is out of business.

My stage clothes came from a number of countries. Beret; U.S.A., jacket; vintage U.S.A., shirt U.S.A., belt; unmarked, pants; China (I am ashamed to admit), socks; France (although other socks I wear are U.S. made) and my shoes were made in Italy.

The largest portion of the audience was drinking American made beer, although some drank imports. (My guess is because of taste preference, not because Corona is cheaper.) A few drank mixed drinks. I’m pretty sure most of the mixers were of U.S. origin. I’m not sure where the liquor came from but America still produces fine alcohol.

Some patrons nibbled on American made corn chips dipped in domestic salsa.

Of course I was made in America and all of my jokes were written in the U.S. (I have to admit that a few were dictated into my Japanese made Olympus recorder.)

So… want to support the American economy and keep American workers employed? Pry yourself away from your Korean made LG big screen, hop in your kinda U.S. made Honda and visit your local comedy club or one-nighter comedy show.

Have a laugh and at the same time support the good ol’ U.S.A.

Don't Check Your Luggage On Frontier Airlines or Clean Fish In Your Room At The Drake Motel

A week or so ago I flew up to Minneapolis, Minnesota to do my hypnosis show for a high school post prom lock-in in a little town called Blackduck. The show went well. The parents were happy, the students were happy and I was happy.

I should say that I was happy except with Frontier Airlines.

I carry only one bag which I usually check because I pack my remote music cueing device which looks odd to the TSA and usually delays me getting through security. So, I get to the Frontier auto check-in kiosk and when I touch the screen to check my ONE bag, I get charged $15.00!

Apparently Frontier would rather delay flights while people block the aisle as they stuff their bags into the overhead bins than do things in a more efficient way. I suppose, though, that if you run a company that lost 161 million dollars in three months, common sense isn’t your strong point.

Frontier Airlines slogan is “A Whole Different Animal.” Maybe the Different Animal they’re referring to is the jackass who instituted the “excess baggage” rule?

On the other hand, the Drake Motel, a little Mom and Pop motor inn up in Blackduck, has a rule against cleaning and storing fish, bear, deer or any other dead animals in your room. Luckily they provide a heated cleaning room and a freezer for storage. At no extra charge. Maybe the folks who run the Drake should be running Frontier.

Next time I fly Frontier I may decide to save $15.00 and carry on my ONE bag, containing my remote music cueing device and, just for grins… a few dead fish.

p.s. I’m flying up to Denver at the end of May. On Southwest. The ticket price was the same and I can check my bag for FREE!
