Laugh! And Support The U.S. Economy At The Same Time
Last night I did a show at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, NM, a beautiful casino/hotel resort.
This morning I read a story about a denim mill (the last one) that still makes quality denim right here in the United States of America. That started me thinking about my own show and its “country of origin.”
First and foremost, my show was at a Native American casino, can’t get much more American than that. Since the p.a. system isn’t mine, I can’t vouch that it is U.S. made. However, my music is controlled by a Virtual Soundman (made in the U.S.A.) remote cueing system. Sadly, VS is out of business.
My stage clothes came from a number of countries. Beret; U.S.A., jacket; vintage U.S.A., shirt U.S.A., belt; unmarked, pants; China (I am ashamed to admit), socks; France (although other socks I wear are U.S. made) and my shoes were made in Italy.
The largest portion of the audience was drinking American made beer, although some drank imports. (My guess is because of taste preference, not because Corona is cheaper.) A few drank mixed drinks. I’m pretty sure most of the mixers were of U.S. origin. I’m not sure where the liquor came from but America still produces fine alcohol.
Some patrons nibbled on American made corn chips dipped in domestic salsa.
Of course I was made in America and all of my jokes were written in the U.S. (I have to admit that a few were dictated into my Japanese made Olympus recorder.)
So… want to support the American economy and keep American workers employed? Pry yourself away from your Korean made LG big screen, hop in your kinda U.S. made Honda and visit your local comedy club or one-nighter comedy show.
Have a laugh and at the same time support the good ol’ U.S.A.
