Funny Hypnotists
Ahhh.… it never ends. Another new and unproven “certified stage hypnotist” paying for google adwords in a desperate attempt to get booked. So, how do I know he’s new and unproven? And what should you, the entertainment booker look for?
Here’s one big clue: Google comedy hypnotist. Click on a paid google adwords link, and if anywhere on the hypnotist’s website there is a claim that said hypnotist wrote a book called, “All About Hypnosis” be forewarned; you’re looking at a newbie… or worse, a wannabe.
They’ve recently taken a stage hypnosis class, and since they have no experience or success in the stage hypnosis field, they buy the rights to a book (written by someone else) and the right to claim authorship. They’re lying to enhance their credibility!
And if they’re willing to mislead you by claiming they wrote a book they didn’t write, what else are they going to lie to you about? To me, these guys (mostly guys) are funny. Not in a “ha-ha” sort of way, but in a “I"m so desperate I’ll say and do anything, even lie to get your money” sort of way. To you, the entertainment hiring person with your butt on the line, they may be not only truth-stretchers who will give you an inferior show… they also may dangerous. Both to your guests and to your reputation. And there’s nothing funny about that!
How do you know you are hiring a proven, experienced entertainer?
Check references, not false claims of authorship. If their references from past clients check out, you’re on the way to a successful show. If not, keep looking.
My hope is that someday these rookies (and phony authors) will realize credibility isn’t something that can be bought, it has to be earned.
